Ram Navami is a hindu festival which marks the birth anniversary of the seventh incarnation of Lord Ram.
Ram Navami festival is celebrated widely in many states of India especially in the Northern part of India.
Now, let us know about the celebration of Ram Navami.
On the day of Ram Navami, Lord Ram was born as the eldest son of King Dasaratha and Queen Kowsalya. Ram Navami was celebrated every year on this day to celebrate the birth of the Lord Rama.
Lord Vishnu took birth as Lord Rama in the world to defeat the Evil Asura Raavan. Since his birth marks the victory of Goodness over evil powers, Ram Navami is celebrated to praise the victory of goodness over the evil powers.
This festival is celebrated very grandly in Ayodhya, a city in Uttar Pradesh which is the birth place of Lord Rama.
Lord Rama was considered as the ancestor of Sun Family. People pray to Sun God to get blessings from him. So, early morning, People start this day by offering water (jal) to Sun God. Ayodhya people used to take a dip in the holy river sarayu and then visit the Rama temple.
On some places, the life history of Lord Ram was depicted as a street drama on this day. People also celebrate this day by reciting prayers to the Lord Rama, Reading holy stories including Ramayana epic and Reciting Rama Stories. They used to visit temples on this day, participate in bhajan events or praying to Lord by staying in home. Fasting is also observed on this day by some people.
In some places, People take miniature(small) doll of Infant Rama, wash the doll,wear clothes to it and decorate it. Then, they place the doll in the cradle.
Let us celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Rama and also the victory of Dharma over Adharma on this day joyfully.
